The Prince of Egypt

The Prince of Egypt is a 1998 American animated biblical epic adventure musical drama film. The film is an adaptation of the second book of the Bible, the Book of Exodus and was also inspired by the 1956 film The Ten Commandments. The basic plot is that of an Egyptian Prince named Moses, who upon discovering his roots as a Jewish slave, embarks on a quest to liberate his people from slavery. When his plea is denied by his brother Rameses, the new pharaoh, God sends a series of ten horrific disasters called plagues to strike Egypt to get the pharaoh to give in to Moses' demand to emancipate the Israelites and allow them to leave Egypt, including turning the Nile river into blood, swarms of frogs, lice and flies, disease on the livestock, boils, fiery hail, swarms of locusts, three days of darkness and the death of the firstborn sons of the Egyptians, the last of which ends up breaking Rameses' spirit as he agrees to let Moses' people go, however, when Moses and the Israelites arrive at the Red Sea, Rameses changes his mind and sends his army and chariots to chase the Israelites to recapture them. However, God sends a fire to stall the Egyptian army and chariots, and Moses parts the Red Sea so the Israelites can cross safely on dry land, but when the Israelites reach the other side, the fire blocking the Egyptians dissipates and the Egyptians give chase, but as soon as they enter the parted path of the Red Sea, the sea falls on the Egyptian army, causing the Egyptian soldiers and chariot horses to drown, and Rameses is washed ashore, making Rameses give up, as Moses says goodbye to his disowned adoptive brother, now free, the Israelites wander the desert until they arrive at Mount Sinai, where God gives Moses the Ten Commandments, a set of laws for his people to live by. The film received a direct-to-video prequel in 2000, Joseph: King of Dreams, making The Prince of Egypt the first DreamWorks Animation film to receive a followup.[1]
