Jack Dawson (born 1892 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, United States — died 1912 in the North Atlantic Ocean, 400 miles off the coast of Newfoundland, at the time the Titanic sank, Newfoundland was its own country and it wouldn't become part of Canada as its 10th province until 37 years later in 1949) is the deuteragonist of James Cameron's 1997 film Titanic and the love interest of Rose DeWitt Bukater. He dies at the end of the film from hypothermia, sacrificing himself to protect Rose by having her float on a doorframe while he stays in the water; he was only twenty years old when he perished. He is portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio.[1]
