Hercule Poirot

Hercule Poirot (pronounced in English ɛʀkyl pwaʀo; in French as Er-cuel Pua-row; in Dutch as Her-cue-le Pua-row; in German as Her-cuel Pua-row) is a fictional Belgian detective created by British novelist Agatha Christie.

Along with Miss Marple, Poirot is one of Christie's most famous and long-lived characters: he appeared in 33 novels and 54 short stories, where he is usually the main protagonist, with the first novel with him being The Mysterious Affair at Styles in 1920 and his final novel being Curtained in 1975, written shortly before Christie's death in 1976. Poirot has been portrayed on screen, for films and TV, by various actors including Albert Finney, Peter Ustinov, Ian Holm, Tony Randall, Alfred Molina, David Suchet, Kenneth Branagh (pictured) and John Malkovich. Some of the most famous novels he solved cases in include Murder on the Orient Express, The Murder of Roger Akroyd, The ABC Murders, and Death on the Nile.[1]
