Gabby (or Angel's Cosplay) is a young cosplayer from Australia. She is known for cosplaying characters from various media, especially video games, anime (formerly) and RWBY. Alongside her cosplay, she also sometimes posts general dress-ups she has done for fun at private events (e.g. friend's parties). She is a mostly self-taught sewer and has made most of her cosplays by hand. She has been cosplaying since 2012, but has only had a public presence since 2015. She is commonly seen cosplaying with her good friend, Cosplay for the Soul. Online she prefers to go by "Angel".
Biography[]
Angel's Cosplay completed her first cosplay "A student from Miss Cackle's Academy for Witches" (The Worst Witch), for Halloween in 2012. However, most of her followers count her 2014 Mikasa (Attack on Titan) cosplay as her first "real" cosplay, mostly due to this costume being the catalyst for her getting more serious about her cosplay endeavours.
On October 31st, 2015 she created her cosplay page on Facebook, "Angel's Cosplay" - originally just as a way to interact with the photographers and fellow cosplayers she met at conventions without having to give out her private social media accounts. Since then the page has grown, amassing over 200 likes and followers as of September 2021.
On July 23rd, 2018 she created an Instagram account for her cosplay - @angles.coplay. It currently has 64 followers.
Costumes[]
To date there have been 24 recorded costumes (including her dress-ups). Her most well know cosplays are Mikasa Ackerman (Attack on Titan), Blake Belladonna (RWBY), Weiss Schnee (RWBY), Maka Albarn (Soul Eater) and Elizabeth (Bioshock Infinite).
Competitive Career[]
Angel's Cosplay competed in her first competition as Asuna Yuuki (Sword Art Online) in the Cosplay Parade at OzComicCon in 2015 alongside two of her friends, notably Fire Dragon Cosplay. She entered her first solo competition at RTXAU in 2016 as Blake Belladonna. Later that year, she entered the Just Cos' cosplay competition at ExExpo 2 days in a row - as Kurumi Ebisuzawa (School Live!), and Elizabeth (Bioshock Infinite) respectively. In 2018 she entered the Cosplay Masquerade at SMASH! in her Homura Akemi (Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica) costume, and the Cosplay Active at OzComicCon as Weiss Schnee (RWBY). To date, she has not won anything in any competition.
Other Appearances[]
Outside of her cosplay, Angel's Cosplay has also made appearance's on her friend Cosplay for the Soul's youtube channels. Most noteably in her Mion Sonozaki (Higurashi) Cosplay in a video reacting to the Higurashi OVAs.
Trivia[]
- On October 31st, 2015 in a post on her Facebook page she said she'd be making a Tumblr page for her cosplay to act as it's "website". To this date she has not released this page.
- In November, 2015 she reported having issues with her internet. A common issue that most Australians face daily.
- In January, 2016 a Cosplay photo of her as Blake Belladonna (RWBY) alongside 3 other cosplayers (as the other members of team RWBY) was featured on a Daily Mail UK article.
- On her social media she typically states her purpose as "wanting to share her love of cosplay with the world"
- She has a love/hate relationship with her Asuna Yuuki (Sword Art Online) cosplay
- She uses a Janome 6125QC sewing machine, Janome MyLock (either 534 or 534D) overlocker, and Janome MemoryCraft 500E embroidery machine. In 2021 she got a Cricut Maker, but is yet to use it for any cosplay projects.
- In a speed art video of some cosplay sketches it was revealed she has a Razer Black Widow keyboard
