Cinderella is a 1950 American animated film produced by Walt Disney and is based on the fairy tale of the same name from the 1697 anthology book Stories or Tales from Past Times, with Morals by Charles Perrault, which in turn is ultimately based on the ancient Greco-Egyptian folktale Rhodopis, which is thought to have been written around the time of Jesus.
Cinderella is the much-loved daughter of a widowed aristocrat. He decides to remarry, believing his beloved daughter needs a mother's care. Ultimately, Cinderella's father marries Lady Tremaine, a proud, vain and confident woman with two daughters just Cinderella's age from a previous marriage named Drizella and Anastasia (a different Anastasia than the title character of a certain 1997 film). The plain and socially awkward stepsisters are bitterly envious of Cinderella's beauty. After Cinderella's father dies, Lady Tremaine reveals herself to be a cold and cruel tyrant who shares her daughters' jealousy of Cinderella's charm and beauty.[1] The film's success spawned two direct-to-video sequels in 2002 and 2007, a live-action reimagining in 2015 and countless merchandise and attractions at every Disney park.
